Is Nitrous Oxide legal in Thailand?
- Legal status
- Nitrous oxide is not scheduled as a narcotic under Thailand's Narcotics Code; as an anaesthetic medical gas it is a 'modern drug' whose manufacture, sale and import require a licence under the Drug Act B.E. 2510 (1967), so unlicensed sale for recreational inhalation is an offence while licensed medical use is lawful.
- Consequences if caught
- Unlicensed sale or supply is a Drug Act offence (imprisonment and fine); because nitrous oxide is not a scheduled narcotic it is NOT death-eligible.
- If prescribed or medical
- Nitrous oxide is a lawful medical/anaesthetic gas and food additive (E942); licensed medical and food-industry supply is permitted.
- Documentation
- Medical nitrous oxide is licensed; open recreational sale in tourist areas is unlicensed and unlawful under the Drug Act, though enforcement is uneven.
