Is MXE legal in Italy?
- Legal status
- MXE (methoxetamine) is controlled across the EU, and therefore in Italy, under Council Implementing Decision (EU) 2015/1875 (8 October 2015), which obliged member states to apply control measures and criminal penalties; Italy places MXE within the narcotics tables of DPR 309/1990.
- Consequences if caught
- Dealing and trafficking MXE are punished under art. 73 of DPR 309/1990 with imprisonment; possession for personal use is dealt with mainly through administrative sanctions under art. 75.
- If prescribed or medical
- MXE is not a registered medicine in Italy and cannot be prescribed; unlike ketamine it has no therapeutic authorisation.
- Documentation
- No pharmacy or medical route exists; online purchases of MXE are illicit imports subject to customs seizure.
