Legal status
Controlled. MDPV is caught as a controlled drug analogue of pyrovalerone (a Class C1 drug) under the analogue provision of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1975, and is therefore treated as a Class C controlled drug.
Consequences if caught
Illegal as a Class C controlled drug (analogue); possession and supply carry Misuse of Drugs Act imprisonment penalties. No death penalty.
If prescribed or medical
MDPV has no recognised medical use and no lawful prescription route in New Zealand.
