Is Kratom legal in Singapore?

Confirmed against a primary sourceVerified July 13, 2026
Legal status
Kratom is controlled in Singapore through its alkaloids: mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine are Class A controlled drugs under the Misuse of Drugs Act; kratom leaf is prohibited because it contains them (controlled together in effect).
Consequences if caught
Unauthorised possession or consumption of a Class A controlled drug draws imprisonment and fines; import and trafficking carry severe penalties, including caning and long imprisonment under the MDA.
If prescribed or medical
No lawful medical route — mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine have no registered therapeutic use in Singapore and are not prescribable.
Documentation
No lawful personal-import route; there is no permit pathway for kratom or its alkaloids.
