Is Diazepam legal in Malaysia?

- Diazepam is a psychotropic under the Poisons Act 1952 (Third Schedule) — the entry captures substances structurally derived from 1,4-benzodiazepine; it is NOT on the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 First Schedule.
- Consequences if caught
- Poisons Act s.30 penalties: a fine up to RM10,000 and/or up to 4 years. Malaysia's mandatory death penalty (DDA s.39B) applies only to First-Schedule dangerous drugs (narcotics/ATS) — benzodiazepines are not death-eligible.
- If prescribed or medical
- Dispensed as a Third-Schedule psychotropic prescription medicine.
- Documentation
- Carry a prescription and original packaging; obtain any required import approval for controlled medicines.
