Is Crack Cocaine legal in Sweden?
- Legal status
- Crack is the freebase (base) form of cocaine and has no separate legal identity in Sweden: it is controlled AS cocaine, a narcotic under the Narcotic Drugs (Punishments) Act (Narkotikastrafflagen 1968:64) and its scheduling ordinances, which cover cocaine, its salts and preparations and so reach the base/freebase form. Crack falls under the same zero-tolerance regime as cocaine.
- Consequences if caught
- Possession and consumption of crack (as cocaine) are both criminal; a minor offence draws day-fines and a criminal record, more serious offences and trafficking draw imprisonment.
- If prescribed or medical
- Cocaine has only narrow controlled medical use; the crack/freebase base has no medicinal preparation and cannot be prescribed.
- Documentation
- No prescription documentation exists for crack/freebase cocaine.
