Is CBD legal in Iran?

Confirmed against a primary sourceVerified July 14, 2026
Legal status
CBD (cannabidiol) is controlled as cannabis under the Anti-Narcotics Law (1988, amended 1997/2011/2017) — cannabis, its cultivation and its derivatives are prohibited narcotics with no CBD carve-out or THC threshold.
Consequences if caught
Cannabis is illegal and possession is penalised (fines, imprisonment, lashes), though minor personal use is often not heavily pursued; the death penalty applies to large-quantity trafficking with the 2017 amendment raising thresholds to about 50 kg, so CBD-specific capital exposure is effectively nil / left to confirmation.
If prescribed or medical
There is no CBD prescription route.
Documentation
No documentation legalises CBD — controlled as cannabis, with no prescription route.
