Is Amphetamine legal in Iraq?

Confirmed against a primary sourceVerified August 25, 2026
Legal status
Controlled psychotropic. Amphetamine is listed in Schedule II of the 1971 Convention on Psychotropic Substances, to which Iraq is a party and under which it files annual assessments with INCB. Iraq's domestic statute is the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Law No. 50 of 2017; no official Iraqi publication of that law's schedules or penalty articles was reachable during this pass, so the domestic control tier is left to confirmation at substance level.
Consequences if caught
NOT CONFIRMED from a primary source. Iraq's capital drug provisions were previously stated here on the authority of an NGO death-penalty overview, which is not a statute. Law No. 50 of 2017 is not carried on UNODC SHERLOC, and the Iraqi Ministry of Health portal (moh.gov.iq) serves only an authentication gateway. Treat Iraq as a jurisdiction where drug trafficking carries the most severe penalties available and verify the current article text before relying on any figure.
If prescribed or medical
Prescription availability NOT CONFIRMED. Iraq furnished INCB assessments for 11 psychotropic substances for 2026, including methylphenidate at 40,000 g, but furnished no amfetamine and no dexamfetamine assessment. INCB therefore records no licit amphetamine requirement for Iraq. That is an absence of licit supply, not a statement that possession is lawful.
Documentation
No reachable Iraqi regulator publishes traveller rules for controlled medicines. Carry the prescription and original packaging and confirm with the Iraqi embassy before travel.
