- Alprazolam is in the 'Tabella dei medicinali' of DPR 309/90 — oral forms in Sezione E (repeatable prescription, 30 days, maximum three dispensings); parenteral/injectable forms fall in the stricter Sezione D.
- Consequences if caught
- Personal-use possession is administrative (art. 75); dealing is criminal (art. 73, roughly 4–6 years for the 'lieve entità' minor tier).
- If prescribed or medical
- Prescribed as a Sezione E benzodiazepine medicine (injectable forms Sezione D).
