- Legal but state-monopolised — spirits, wine and strong beer (ethanol) are sold only through the Systembolaget retail monopoly to buyers aged 20+; on-premise service from 18. Not a controlled drug.

- No penalty for adult consumption; illegal private/unlicensed sale (langning) is a criminal offence.

- Off-sales of stronger alcohol only at Systembolaget stores on proof of age (20+); light beer available in supermarkets. No traveller permit within EU allowances.
