Is 4-HO-MET legal in Ireland?

- 4-HO-MET is caught in Ireland by the blanket prohibition of the Criminal Justice (Psychoactive Substances) Act 2010, which criminalises the sale, importation, exportation and advertising of any psychoactive substance not otherwise regulated; as a psychoactive tryptamine sold on the research-chemical market it comes within the Act's general definition of a psychoactive substance.

- Sale, supply, importation or advertisement is an offence carrying up to 5 years (up to life on indictment for the aggravated forms). The 2010 Act is supply-side only and does not criminalise simple possession, in contrast to substances scheduled under the Misuse of Drugs Acts.
- If prescribed or medical
- No authorised medical use and not an approved medicinal product, so there is no lawful prescription route.
- Documentation
- Controlled by blanket psychoactive-substances legislation rather than by a scheduled name: the operative mechanism is the 2010 Act's supply-side catch-all, not a Misuse of Drugs tryptamine listing. This blanket route, which leaves possession untouched, distinguishes 4-HO-MET from the named-and-scheduled psilocin.
