Is 4-AcO-DMT legal in Ireland?

Confirmed against a primary sourceVerified July 14, 2026
Legal status
4-AcO-DMT is caught in Ireland by the blanket Criminal Justice (Psychoactive Substances) Act 2010, which prohibits the sale and supply of any 'psychoactive substance' — any substance producing a psychoactive effect — that is not already separately regulated. As a psilocin-prodrug tryptamine not individually scheduled under the Misuse of Drugs Acts, O-acetylpsilocin falls under this general new-psychoactive-substances ban.
Consequences if caught
Selling, supplying, importing, exporting or advertising a psychoactive substance is an offence (up to 5 years on indictment); notably, simple possession of 4-AcO-DMT for personal use is not itself an offence under the 2010 Act.
If prescribed or medical
Not a medicine; there is no prescription pathway for 4-AcO-DMT.
