Is Quetiapine legal in Italy?

- Quetiapine is a prescription medicine (medicinale con obbligo di ricetta, classe A-RR), not a controlled substance: quetiapina products (Seroquel and generics) hold AIFA marketing authorisation and are not listed in the tabelle of the Testo Unico stupefacenti (DPR 309/1990).
- Consequences if caught
- Quetiapine carries no stupefacenti penalty; supply outside the prescription channel breaches medicines regulation only.
- If prescribed or medical
- Prescribed as an atypical antipsychotic for schizophrenia and bipolar disorder; AIFA safety communications flag metabolic monitoring rather than any controlled-drug status.
- Documentation
- Quetiapina RCP and leaflets are published in the AIFA banca dati farmaci; carried lawfully with a prescription.
