Legality · Pregabalin

Is Pregabalin legal in Netherlands?

Confirmed against a primary sourceVerified July 14, 2026
Legal status
Pregabalin is a prescription-only medicine (uitsluitend recept, UR) under the Geneesmiddelenwet and is NOT listed on List I or II of the Opium Act (Opiumwet) — like gabapentin, it is an ordinary prescription medicine, not a controlled drug.
Consequences if caught
Supply without authorisation is a medicines-law offence; it is not handled under the Opium Act's controlled-drug penalties.
If prescribed or medical
Dispensed as an ordinary prescription-only medicine (UR).
Documentation
Because it is not an Opiumwet medicine, a Schengen Article 75 certificate is not strictly required; carry the original prescription or a doctor's letter.
