Is Mitragynine legal in Netherlands?

- Neither mitragynine nor kratom is scheduled in the Netherlands: mitragynine, the principal alkaloid of kratom, is not listed on either Opium Act (Opiumwet) list, so as a kratom alkaloid it shares the plant's un-controlled status — limited only by the Warenwet (Commodities Act), which bars marketing kratom for human consumption.
- Consequences if caught
- No Opium Act penalty attaches to the alkaloid; selling kratom for human consumption is restrained under the Warenwet, not the Opiumwet.
- If prescribed or medical
- No licensed kratom or alkaloid medicine exists; there is no prescription product.
- Documentation
- No narcotics import controls apply; personal carry is limited only by food-safety marketing rules.
