Consequences if caught
Federal: Schedule I. 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) is listed among the hallucinogenic substances at 21 CFR 1308.11(d) — DEA code 7405. Schedule I means no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse; manufacture, distribution and possession are federal offences.
If prescribed or medical
Not available on prescription. Schedule I substances have no accepted medical use in the United States and may be handled only under a DEA research registration.
Documentation
Federal scheduling is uniform across the United States. STATE LAW IS NOT, and the federal schedule is not the whole answer for any substance: states set their own offences, thresholds and penalties, and these differ substantially. This states the federal position only.
