Is Lorazepam legal in Pakistan?
- Legal status
- Lorazepam falls in the Schedule-I psychotropic tier under the Control of Narcotic Substances Act 1997 (s.9(2)); unlike alprazolam, clonazepam and diazepam it is not separately enumerated by name, but it sits in the same psychotropic penalty tier.
- Consequences if caught
- Section 9(2) penalties are graduated by quantity, topping out at not-less-than-life for very large amounts — there is NO death tier at any quantity (Pakistan removed the death penalty from CNSA s.9 via Act XXXVIII of 2023). Benzodiazepines are not death-eligible.
- If prescribed or medical
- Dispensed as a controlled prescription medicine.
- Documentation
- Carry a prescription and original packaging; declare controlled medicines.
