Is Kratom legal in Taiwan?

Confirmed against a primary sourceVerified July 13, 2026
Legal status
Kratom is controlled in Taiwan — Mitragyna speciosa is listed as a Schedule 3 controlled drug under the Controlled Drugs Act, with mitragynine (the principal alkaloid) named in the schedule alongside the plant (controlled together, not a separate isolate).
Consequences if caught
Schedule 3 offences: simple possession draws an administrative fine and drug education, while possession-with-intent or sale carries roughly 3-10 years.
If prescribed or medical
No lawful self-medication route — kratom is a controlled drug and a licence is required for any controlled handling.
Documentation
A licence is needed to import or export controlled drugs; there is no personal-import allowance for kratom.
