Legality · Kratom

Is Kratom legal in Aceh (Indonesia)?

Confirmed against a primary sourceVerified July 13, 2026
Legal status
Kratom (Mitragyna speciosa) follows the national Indonesian status in Aceh — it is not a narcotic; the Qanun Jinayat (Qanun No. 6/2014) covers alcohol, gambling and morality offences, not kratom, and there is no Aceh-specific kratom provision. Neither mitragynine nor 7-hydroxymitragynine is scheduled.
Consequences if caught
No narcotics or Qanun penalty for kratom — the Qanun's caning provisions do not reach it, and national law treats kratom as a lawful commodity (BPOM bars only medicinal/supplement use).
If prescribed or medical
No lawful medicinal or supplement use under national BPOM rules; Aceh adds no separate medical route.
Documentation
National commodity rules apply; there is no Aceh-specific kratom carry restriction.
