Is Ephedrine legal in Greece?
- Legal status
- Regulated as a chemical PRECURSOR (1988 UN Convention Table I — a methamphetamine precursor), NOT as a scheduled narcotic; an EU Category 1 scheduled substance enforced alongside Law 3459/2006. Also an EOF-regulated prescription/pharmacy medicine. Not a scheduled narcotic itself.
- Consequences if caught
- Illicit diversion of a Category-1 precursor is an offence under the EU regime + Greek implementing law; precursor/pharmaceutical offences separate from narcotics-trafficking penalties.
- If prescribed or medical
- Also a pharmacy/prescription decongestant-bronchodilator medicine subject to sales limits; carry documentation for a personal supply.
- Documentation
- For Schengen travel carry a Schengen certificate for controlled medicines, plus the original container, the prescription label and a doctor's letter (the name must match your passport). Methadone/buprenorphine travellers should arrange this through OKANA (Athens/Thessaloniki) with an application and a medical certificate at least 1 month ahead (English/German/French accepted).
