Legality · Ephedrine

Is Ephedrine legal in Angola?

Confirmed against a primary sourceVerified September 16, 2026
Legal status
Controlled. Efedrina is in table V of Lei n.º 3/99. Table V is the precursor table, so the offence is article 5 rather than article 4.
Consequences if caught
The tables annexed to Lei n.º 3/99 print this substance as 'Efedrina' in table V. This is a precursor, not a table I to IV substance, and it is reached by a different article. Article 5 covers making, importing, exporting, transporting or distributing a substance in tables V and VI knowing it is destined for unlawful drug production, at major imprisonment of 2 to 8 years, and mere possession on the same knowledge at up to 2 years and a corresponding fine. Article 23 reaches consumption of a substance in tables I to IV. A table V precursor is outside it. Angola has no administrative commission and no possession threshold that makes any of this lawful, and Lei n.º 3/99 prescribes no death penalty.
If prescribed or medical
Prescription supply through the licensed channel is lawful. Lei n.º 3/99 punishes a doctor who prescribes or hands over a listed substance for a non therapeutic purpose, and a pharmacist who sells or hands one over for such a purpose, under article 10.
Documentation
Carry any prescribed medicine in its original packaging with the prescription. Angola is outside the Schengen certificate scheme, so confirm import conditions for a controlled medicine with the Angolan authorities before travel.
