Is Diazepam legal in Bangladesh?

Confirmed against a primary sourceVerified August 24, 2026
Legal status
Diazepam is a lower-class psychotropic/sedative under the Narcotics Control Act 2018 (below Class 'Ka'/A).
Consequences if caught
Lower-class psychotropic offences draw graduated imprisonment and fines by quantity. The death penalty (Section 36) is reserved for Class 'Ka'/A drugs at threshold (heroin/cocaine >25g, methamphetamine/yaba >5g) — benzodiazepines fall below the capital tier.
If prescribed or medical
Clearly available as medicine: the INCB assessed 2026 requirement for diazepam in Bangladesh is 3,050,000 g. It is dispensed as a controlled prescription medicine. Bangladesh has furnished INCB no traveller regulation at all (“Information not yet provided by country”), so no published national rule tells you what you may carry — ask the Department of Narcotics Control before you fly.
Documentation
Carry a prescription and original packaging; declare controlled medicines.
