Is Crack Cocaine legal in Malaysia?

Confirmed against a primary sourceVerified July 14, 2026
Legal status
Crack is the freebase (base) form of cocaine and has no separate legal identity in Malaysia: it is controlled AS cocaine, a dangerous drug under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 (Act 234), whose First Schedule covers cocaine, its salts and preparations and thus reaches the base/freebase form. The Act's capital trafficking regime is measured by weight of cocaine and carries over to crack: trafficking above 40 g of cocaine triggers the trafficking presumption and death-penalty exposure (discretionary since 2023) whether powder or base.
Consequences if caught
Possession of crack (as cocaine) is criminal; trafficking above the statutory weight of cocaine carries death or life plus whipping (death now at judicial discretion).
If prescribed or medical
Cocaine has no recognised therapeutic use in Malaysia; the crack/freebase base has no medicinal preparation and cannot be prescribed.
Documentation
No prescription documentation exists for crack/freebase cocaine.
