Is Caffeine legal in Grenada?

Confirmed against a primary sourceVerified September 16, 2026
Legal status
Not a controlled drug. Caffeine is not named in the First Schedule to the Drug Abuse (Prevention and Control) Act, Chapter 84A, and that schedule is the complete definition.
Consequences if caught
Section 3(1) defines a controlled drug exhaustively as a narcotic drug listed in Part I of the First Schedule, a psychotropic substance listed in Part II, or a listed substance listed in Part III. There is no general definition by effect and no analogue or similarity limb. The only reach beyond a named entry is in the schedule itself, which extends control to any stereoisomeric form of a named substance, any ester or ether of one, and any salt of one. The consolidated text records the act's full amendment history as Act No. 7 of 1992 amended by SRO 16 of 2011, and its subsidiary legislation section reads in terms that there is no subsidiary legislation. So the First Schedule as printed is the complete current list, and this absence is stated as at SRO 16 of 2011. For comparison, a substance that is on the schedule attracts the Fifth Schedule figures, which are the same for every offence in it: on summary conviction a fine of 250,000 dollars or imprisonment for 5 years or both, and on conviction on indictment a fine of 500,000 dollars or imprisonment for 20 years or both.
If prescribed or medical
Not a controlled drug under this act, so no controlled drug prescription rule applies. Whether it is regulated as a medicine in Grenada was not established here.
Documentation
No controlled drug documentation requirement arises under this act. Carry any prescribed medicine in its original packaging with the prescription.
