Buprenorphine is a controlled narcotic under the General Health Law (Ley General de Salud) in a lighter access tier than methadone; it is registered (including an IV form) but supply is limited.
Consequences if caught
Sale, supply or possession without authorisation is punishable; personal use with a valid prescription is lawful.
If prescribed or medical
Provided for opioid-substitution treatment via authorised clinics (a methadone-based system); take-home is limited and access patchy.
Documentation
Personal use is allowed with a valid prescription or medical letter; a COFEPRIS/INCB permit and border declaration apply to narcotic medicines.
