- Buprenorphine is a scheduled controlled opioid in China, internationally a 1971 Schedule III drug, a lighter tier than methadone; at therapeutic quantities it sits below the large-quantity capital tier, confirmed.
- Consequences if caught
- Unauthorised supply is prosecuted under Criminal Law art. 347 (graduated by quantity); the capital 'large quantity' tier is keyed to opium (≥1,000 g), heroin/methamphetamine (≥50 g) and morphine (~100 g), therapeutic buprenorphine is below the death-eligible tier, confirmed.
- If prescribed or medical
- Controlled and prescription-only (used for opioid substitution).
- Documentation
- Declare controlled medicines and carry a prescription; unlicensed import is treated as smuggling.
