Is Amphetamine legal in Kuwait?
- Legal status
- Controlled psychotropic. Kuwait's governing statute is now Amiri Decree-Law No. 59 of 2025 on combating drugs and psychotropic substances, whose Article 83 repealed Law No. 74 of 1983 and Law No. 48 of 1987 and merged them into one 84-article framework. CORRECTION: this cell previously cited the decree as No. 159 of 2025; the state news agency report gives the number as 59 of 2025.
- Consequences if caught
- Chapter Nine of Decree-Law 59/2025 provides the death penalty or life imprisonment, plus fines of KD 100,000 to KD 2 million, for trafficking, production or cultivation intended for trafficking, and makes organising an international drug-trafficking operation punishable by death. The published account of the decree does not tie capital exposure to any named substance or gram threshold, so amphetamine's position within that tier is not confirmed from a primary text.
- If prescribed or medical
- Available on prescription through controlled medical channels. Kuwait furnished INCB an amfetamine assessment of 3,000 g and a dexamfetamine assessment of 3,000 g for 2026, within a 24-substance psychotropic return that also covers methylphenidate at 15,000 g. Carrying amphetamine without a Kuwaiti prescription or import permit still risks arrest.
- Documentation
- Kuwait's Ministry of Health licenses and controls the supply chain under the 2025 decree. The Ministry's own site (moh.gov.kw) did not respond during this pass, so no traveller import rule is quoted here from the regulator itself - confirm requirements with the Kuwaiti embassy before travel.
