Is Amphetamine legal in India?

- Psychotropic substance in the NDPS schedule under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 (also Schedule X, Drugs & Cosmetics Rules).
- Consequences if caught
- NDPS penalties are quantity-based: small quantity up to ~1 year and/or fine; commercial quantity 10–20 years rigorous imprisonment.
- If prescribed or medical
- Carry the original prescription + a doctor's letter and only a reasonable personal supply; Adderall is not marketed in India.
- Documentation
- Essential Narcotic Drugs (morphine, fentanyl, methadone, oxycodone, codeine, hydrocodone) are medically regulated; a traveller should carry the prescription with original packaging, bring only a reasonable personal quantity, and declare at customs. Tramadol was added to the NDPS schedule in 2018 (commercial quantity 250 g) and is controlled.
