Is Alcohol legal in Uzbekistan?

Legal status
Legal for adults in Uzbekistan, with an age limit of twenty one. Alcohol is not a controlled drug: ethanol is not named in Lists I to IV of Resolution 330 or in the potent substance list of Resolution No. 818, read on 3 October 2026, and that does not rule out a later amendment [Certain]. Article 21 of Law ZRU-844 of 24 May 2023 forbids selling alcohol products to and by persons under twenty one, and article 24 forbids drinking «иш жойларида, кўчаларда, стадионларда, хиёбонларда, боғларда, барча турдаги жамоат транспортида ва бошқа жамоат жойларида» (at work, in streets, stadiums, parks, public transport and other public places), except in licensed premises and at weddings and celebrations [Certain].
Consequences if caught
Capital exposure: none. Article 25 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan of 30 April 2023 provides «Ўзбекистон Республикасида ўлим жазоси тақиқланади», in the Russian text «В Республике Узбекистан смертная казнь запрещается» (the death penalty is prohibited in the Republic of Uzbekistan), read in both texts on lex.uz on 3 October 2026 [Certain]. Drinking in a public place is fined under Administrative Code article 187 at half the base calculation amount [Certain]. Making strong home distilled spirits to sell, or selling them, is fined under article 186 at five to ten times the base calculation amount with confiscation [Certain]. Drink driving rules were not read in this run.
