Is 7-Hydroxymitragynine (7-OH) legal in India?

Confirmed against a primary sourceVerified July 13, 2026
Legal status
Neither 7-hydroxymitragynine nor kratom is a scheduled narcotic under the NDPS Act 1985: 7-OH, a kratom alkaloid, is not distinguished from whole-leaf kratom and is absent from the NDPS schedules, so it shares the plant's unregulated federal status.
Consequences if caught
No NDPS penalty attaches to the alkaloid at the federal level; kratom is not scheduled.
If prescribed or medical
No NDPS-scheduled kratom or alkaloid medicine exists; there is no controlled prescription tier for it federally.
Documentation
No NDPS import controls apply; kratom and its alkaloids are federally unscheduled (India exports kratom).
