Is Tramadol legal in Kuwait?

Confirmed against a primary sourceVerified August 24, 2026
Legal status
Tramadol is a scheduled controlled narcotic in Kuwait under Decree-Law 159/2025 on Combating Narcotics (in force 15 December 2025) and its annexed schedules, requiring advance clearance to import; the 2025 law retains death for trafficking, though tramadol-specific capital exposure is left to confirmation.
Consequences if caught
Importing without advance clearance leads to confiscation and possible prosecution; the tramadol-specific capital tier is left to confirmation.
If prescribed or medical
PRESCRIPTION AVAILABILITY NOT CONFIRMED. Tramadol is not scheduled under the 1961 or 1971 Conventions, so no INCB estimate or assessment covers it and there is no international dataset to read. Kuwait's Ministry of Health drug registry and national price list did not respond (connection timed out), so no Kuwaiti medicines-regulator source was reachable. The control status above is what is established. On carrying medicines generally, Kuwait's own INCB sheet (10 March 2024) permits 30 days of psychotropics with a valid prescription and states: "Narcotic drugs are currently not allowed."
Documentation
Obtain advance written/electronic clearance (via embassy/consulate) before boarding and carry a certified prescription/medical report; supply is limited to roughly 15 days.
