Nitrous Oxide in Dominica: not individually verified

Also known as: laughing gas, whippets, nangs

Not individually verified

We have not confirmed that Nitrous Oxide specifically is scheduled in Dominica, so this page gives no legal status. Publishing a guess here would be worse than publishing nothing. What we do know is the governing national drug law, below.

What is on record
Not confirmed. No entry for Nitrous oxide was found in Part I, Part II or Part III of the Third Schedule to the Drugs (Prevention of Misuse) Act, Chapter 40:07, on a reading of the three complete printed lists as page images at the revision note «L.R.O. 1/1991» printed in the footer of those pages. No gas is printed anywhere in Parts I to III. Every entry in the three lists is a named organic compound or a plant material, and the Schedule prints no inorganic substance at all. The point is worth stating as a measured property of the list rather than as an inference about intent, because elsewhere in the Commonwealth this substance was brought under drugs legislation only in the 2020s and always by a later instrument. The absence is bounded by that revision and by nothing further: section 4(3) lets the Minister amend Parts I to III by Order after consulting the Advisory Council, Orders of that kind are published separately, and this consolidation reproduces none made after the note its Schedule pages carry. So about thirty five years of possible additions sit outside what was read, and that gap is why this row is left open here rather than published as a finding that the substance is uncontrolled in Dominica.

Confirm directly with Dominica’s national drug authority or your own embassy before you rely on anything.
