Modafinil in Dominica: not individually verified

Also known as: provigil

Not individually verified

We have not confirmed that Modafinil specifically is scheduled in Dominica, so this page gives no legal status. Publishing a guess here would be worse than publishing nothing. What we do know is the governing national drug law, below.

What is on record
Not confirmed. No entry for Modafinil was found in Part I, Part II or Part III of the Third Schedule to the Drugs (Prevention of Misuse) Act, Chapter 40:07, on a reading of the three complete printed lists as page images at the revision note «L.R.O. 1/1991» printed in the footer of those pages. Modafinil is not printed in Parts I to III. The Class C list is where the prescribed wakefulness agents of the era sit, and it prints «Pemoline» and «Pipradrol», both on skeletons unrelated to a diphenylmethyl sulphinyl acetamide. The compound was not in clinical use in the Commonwealth when this revision was authorised, which is a reason to expect the absence and not a reason to treat it as settled. The absence is bounded by that revision and by nothing further: section 4(3) lets the Minister amend Parts I to III by Order after consulting the Advisory Council, Orders of that kind are published separately, and this consolidation reproduces none made after the note its Schedule pages carry. So about thirty five years of possible additions sit outside what was read, and that gap is why this row is left open here rather than published as a finding that the substance is uncontrolled in Dominica.

Confirm directly with Dominica’s national drug authority or your own embassy before you rely on anything.
