Is Methylphenidate legal in United Arab Emirates?
- Legal status
- Scheduled psychotropic (Table No. 5) under Federal Decree-Law No. 30 of 2021; a controlled medicine requiring a MOHAP import permit.
- Consequences if caught
- First possession/use ≥3 months or a fine (rehab diversion possible). Trafficking of a scheduled psychotropic is death/life eligible; methylphenidate is a licit medicine but carrying it without a MOHAP permit risks arrest.
- If prescribed or medical
- Prescription ADHD/narcolepsy medicine (e.g. Ritalin/Concerta) via controlled channels; carry the original prescription and any required import permit.
