LSA (Morning Glory) in Tonga: not individually verified

Also known as: hawaiian baby woodrose

Not individually verified

We have not confirmed that LSA (Morning Glory) specifically is scheduled in Tonga, so this page gives no legal status. Publishing a guess here would be worse than publishing nothing. What we do know is the governing national drug law, below.

What is on record
Not confirmed. LSA (ergine, lysergic acid amide) is not named in Schedule 1. Schedule 1, Class A, names "(+)-Lysergide" (LSD), the N,N-diethylamide of lysergic acid; LSA is the simpler, naturally occurring unsubstituted amide and is not a straightforward single step structural modification in the direction the analogue drugs clause inserted by the Illicit Drugs Control (Amendment) Act 2020, Act 15 of 2020, section 2(a), appears to contemplate, and no instrument read this session states that a less substituted relative of a named drug is reached. LSA is naturally present in the seeds of Argyreia nervosa (Hawaiian baby woodrose) and Ipomoea species (morning glory), neither of which is named in Schedule 1. Two further amending Acts dated 2024 could not be retrieved this session (see documentation); if either added LSA or a fitting anchor, that is not verified here. Schedule 1 is amended by Act of the Legislative Assembly; the cached text is the 2020 Revised Edition, consolidated to 31 October 2020. The Illicit Drugs Control (Amendment) Act 2020, Act 15 of 2020, assented 26 November 2020, and the Illicit Drugs Control (Amendment) Act 2021, Act 19 of 2021, were each fetched and read separately this session; both post-date the Revised Edition's own cutoff and neither amends Schedule 1 itself, only sections 2 to 5. Section 2's definition of "illicit drug" also reaches "anything prescribed by regulation to be an illicit drug", a delegated power; no regulation made under it was searched this session, so whether that power has been exercised is not verified. This absence is stated current as of the 2020 Revised Edition and does not rule out a later Schedule 1 amendment, an unlocated regulation under that delegated power, or either of the two 2024 Acts that could not be retrieved this session.
