Gabapentin in Tonga: not individually verified
Also known as: neurontin
We have not confirmed that Gabapentin specifically is scheduled in Tonga, so this page gives no legal status. Publishing a guess here would be worse than publishing nothing. What we do know is the governing national drug law, below.
- What is on record
- Not confirmed. Gabapentin is not named anywhere in Schedule 1 of the Illicit Drugs Control Act, Act 7 of 2003, Cap. 4.06, 2020 Revised Edition; a full text search of the cached Schedule 1 for «gabapentin» and its chemical name, 1-(aminomethyl)cyclohexaneacetic acid, found no entry under Class A, the «OTHER ILLICIT DRUGS» sub-heading, or Class B. Gabapentin has no structural relationship to any named Schedule 1 entry close enough to support an analogue finding under the «analogue drugs» clause in the Illicit Drugs Control (Amendment) Act 2020, Act 15 of 2020, section 2, so no such finding is made here. This absence is not treated as a final answer because the consolidation does not close itself: the Illicit Drugs Control (Amendment) Act 2021 (Act 19 of 2021) and two further 2024 amendment Acts exist in the official index, and the two 2024 Acts, the Illicit Drugs Control (Amendment) (No.1) Act 2024 and the Illicit Drugs Control (Amendment) (No.2) Act 2024, could not be retrieved this session, both the direct PDF link and the containing legislation index returned HTTP 404. Whether gabapentin was added by either 2024 Act is therefore not verified, not ruled out. Schedule 1 is read here as at 7 October 2026 against the 2020 Revised Edition, and a later amendment reaching gabapentin directly is not ruled out.
Confirm directly with Tonga’s national drug authority or your own embassy before you rely on anything.
