Is Ephedrine legal in United Arab Emirates?

- Regulated as a chemical PRECURSOR (1988 UN Convention Table I — a methamphetamine precursor), NOT as a scheduled narcotic; a precursor (1988 Table I) and restricted controlled medicine under Federal Decree-Law No. 30 of 2021; import needs MOH pre-approval.
- Consequences if caught
- No confirmed capital exposure — Decree-Law 30/2021's death/life tier attaches to trafficking scheduled narcotics/psychotropics, not precursors. Bringing it without an MOH permit → seizure, detention, prosecution.
- If prescribed or medical
- Also a pharmacy/prescription decongestant-bronchodilator medicine subject to sales limits; carry documentation for a personal supply.
- Documentation
- MOHAP import permit (apply ~2 weeks before travel) + the prescription + an attested medical report + original packaging; declare at customs. Without a permit but with a prescription and medical report you must still declare at customs — officers may allow entry or confiscate the medicine and detain you.
