Is Clonazepam legal in Singapore?

Confirmed against a primary sourceVerified July 13, 2026
Legal status
Clonazepam is a prescription-only 'poison' under the Poisons Act (Cap. 234) and its Rules; it is NOT listed on the Misuse of Drugs Act First Schedule, so it sits below the controlled-drug tier.
Consequences if caught
Unauthorised possession or supply of a prescription poison draws a fine and/or up to ~2 years (Poisons Act s.16). Singapore's death penalty (MDA Second Schedule) applies only to narcotics and amphetamine-type drugs above trafficking weights — benzodiazepines are not death-eligible.
If prescribed or medical
Dispensed as a prescription-only poison.
Documentation
Carry a prescription and keep the medicine in original packaging; declare controlled medicines on entry.
