Is Clonazepam legal in Nigeria?
- Legal status
- Clonazepam is a psychotropic substance (1971 Schedule IV) under the NDLEA Act (Cap. N30), ss.19–20.
- Consequences if caught
- Psychotropic possession/dealing draws fixed terms (~15–25 years); s.11 trafficking up to life. The NDLEA Act carries no death penalty — the old capital drug provision was abolished in 1986/expunged 1989, and a 2024 reintroduction bill was not enacted. Benzodiazepines are not death-eligible.

- Dispensed as a controlled psychotropic prescription medicine.
- Documentation
- Carry a prescription and original packaging; declare controlled medicines.
