Buprenorphine in Kiribati: not individually verified

Also known as: subutex

Not individually verified

We have not confirmed that Buprenorphine specifically is scheduled in Kiribati, so this page gives no legal status. Publishing a guess here would be worse than publishing nothing. What we do know is the governing national drug law, below.

What is on record
Not confirmed. Buprenorphine is not named in Schedule 2 of the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, Cap. 23, Laws of the Gilbert Islands, Revised Edition 1977, and whether any later order under section 13(2) added it is not established. Thebaine is named in Schedule 2 Part I on printed page 26, but buprenorphine is not named and the text read has no clause naming derivatives of thebaine, so no argument is made that it falls inside paragraph 2. The Poisons List in the Pharmacy and Poisons Ordinance Cap. 70, 1977 Edition, prints, at Part I printed page 28, the entry "Thebaine." and does not name buprenorphine. That list is a sale law, not the drug schedule, its force today is not established, and under section 53(3) the Secretary may add to it by order. This is not a finding that buprenorphine is uncontrolled in Kiribati. The Dangerous Drugs Ordinance was read as in force in the 1977 Revised Edition as amended to the Acts of 1995 and 2001, and this text does not rule out a later amendment or a later order under section 13(2).
