Is Amphetamine legal in Singapore?

Confirmed against a primary sourceVerified August 24, 2026
Legal status
Class A controlled drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1973 (First Schedule) — 'Amphetamine' is named.
Consequences if caught
Possession/use of a Class A drug up to 10 years or S$20,000. IMPORTANT: amphetamine is NOT in the Second-Schedule capital-trafficking list (which names methamphetamine >250 g, opiates, cocaine, cannabis), so amphetamine trafficking is NOT death-penalty-eligible — general Class-A trafficking penalties (5–20 years + caning) apply.
If prescribed or medical
A licit prescription channel exists but is narrow. Singapore’s assessed 2026 requirements are amfetamine 10 g and dexamfetamine 100 g (methylphenidate 100,000 g) — a licit channel exists but is very small. Singapore’s HSA sheet (7 February 2025) allows “not more than 3 months’ doses” with a valid prescription, doctor’s letter, pharmacy-dispensed label, travel itinerary and an HSA approval letter.
Documentation
Original packaging + doctor's prescription; check Singapore's HSA / apply for approval for personal medication.
