Alcohol in Tonga: not individually verified
Also known as: booze
We have not confirmed that Alcohol specifically is scheduled in Tonga, so this page gives no legal status. Publishing a guess here would be worse than publishing nothing. What we do know is the governing national drug law, below.
- What is on record
- Not confirmed, and deliberately left that way rather than described by a regime this session could not locate. Alcohol and ethanol were searched against five instruments: the Illicit Drugs Control Act, Act 7 of 2003, Cap. 4.06, 2020 Revised Edition, Schedule 1, pages 21 to 23; the Illicit Drugs Control (Amendment) Act 2020, Act 15 of 2020, section 2; the Drugs and Poisons Act, Act 11 of 1930 et seq., Cap. 79, 1988 Revised Edition, Schedule A, pages 26 to 27, and Part III, pages 19 to 20; the Therapeutic Goods Act 2001, No. 3 of 2001; and the Therapeutic Goods Regulations 2011, 2020 Revised Edition. No entry fitting alcohol or ethyl alcohol was established in any of the five, and no separate liquor licensing Act was located in the official Attorney General index under either search. This is not a finding that alcohol is uncontrolled in Tonga: a liquor licensing or customs excise regime plausibly exists outside these five instruments and was not located this session.
Confirm directly with Tonga’s national drug authority or your own embassy before you rely on anything.
