Alcohol in Kiribati: not individually verified

Also known as: booze

Not individually verified

We have not confirmed that Alcohol specifically is scheduled in Kiribati, so this page gives no legal status. Publishing a guess here would be worse than publishing nothing. What we do know is the governing national drug law, below.

What is on record
Not confirmed. Alcohol is not named in Schedule 2 of the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, Cap. 23, Laws of the Gilbert Islands, Revised Edition 1977, and whether any later order under section 13(2) added it is not established. The Customs Act 2019 Schedule 4 entries for absolute alcohol and ethyl alcohol are an import restriction, item 1 for 'Absolute alcohol.' and item 2 for 'Ethyl Alcohol, as defined in the British Pharmacopaeia, as published from time to time' (the ae in the printed word is a ligature), and not a law on drinks, and no Kiribati liquor law was found in anything read, which is not a finding that none exists. This is not a finding that alcohol is uncontrolled in Kiribati. The Dangerous Drugs Ordinance was read as in force in the 1977 Revised Edition as amended to the Acts of 1995 and 2001, and this text does not rule out a later amendment or a later order under section 13(2).

Confirm directly with Kiribati’s national drug authority or your own embassy before you rely on anything.
