7-Hydroxymitragynine (7-OH) in Tonga: not individually verified

Not individually verified

We have not confirmed that 7-Hydroxymitragynine (7-OH) specifically is scheduled in Tonga, so this page gives no legal status. Publishing a guess here would be worse than publishing nothing. What we do know is the governing national drug law, below.

What is on record
Not confirmed. 7-hydroxymitragynine, the oxidised alkaloid of the kratom tree (searched also as 7-OH-mitragynine), was checked by name against Schedule 1 of the Illicit Drugs Control Act, Act 7 of 2003, Cap. 4.06, 2020 Revised Edition, pages 21 to 23: the Class A lists drawn from the 1961 and 1971 Convention schedules, the «OTHER ILLICIT DRUGS» heading and the «CLASS B12» cannabis heading. No entry names it, and its indole alkaloid skeleton bears no isomer, homologue or hydrogenation relationship to any opioid, phenethylamine or cannabinoid named there, so the Illicit Drugs Control (Amendment) Act 2020 analogue clause has no named parent to attach it to either. Schedule 2's controlled chemicals list and the Illicit Drugs Control (Amendment) Act 2021 were also checked, no match. Two further amendment Acts from 2024 are indexed by the Attorney General's office but returned HTTP 404 this session at both the direct PDF and the containing folder, so this remains an open rather than a closed absence.

Confirm directly with Tonga’s national drug authority or your own embassy before you rely on anything.
