5-MeO-DMT (Bufo / Toad) in Timor-Leste: not individually verified

Also known as: the god molecule

Not individually verified

We have not confirmed that 5-MeO-DMT (Bufo / Toad) specifically is scheduled in Timor-Leste, so this page gives no legal status. Publishing a guess here would be worse than publishing nothing. What we do know is the governing national drug law, below.

What is on record
Not confirmed. Lei n.º 2/2017 carries no closing statement that would let an absence read as a settled negative, so the finding below is reported as unconfirmed rather than closed. 5-MeO-DMT is not named by that name anywhere in Lei n.º 2/2017's tables. Two related tryptamines are named in Table II-A: DMT at item 12 ("DMT - N-N-dimetiltriptamina", N,N-dimethyltryptamine) and bufotenine at item 7 ("Bufotenina - 5-hidroxi-N-N-dimetiltripptamina", 5-hydroxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine). Table II-A's closing clause extends control to "os isómeros das substâncias inscritas nesta tabela em todos os casos em que estes isómeros possam existir com designação química específica, salvo se forem expressamente excluídos" (the isomers of the substances listed in this table, in every case in which those isomers can exist with a specific chemical designation, unless expressly excluded). Working through that clause the same way as for 3-MMC, but reaching the opposite result here: an isomer, in the ordinary chemical sense the word carries, is a compound that shares the identical molecular formula with a different arrangement of the same atoms. DMT's molecular formula is C12H16N2. Bufotenine, DMT's 5-hydroxy derivative, is C12H16N2O, one oxygen atom heavier than DMT; it is a hydroxylated derivative of DMT, not DMT's isomer, since the atom counts differ. 5-MeO-DMT is the 5-methoxy derivative, C13H18N2O, one carbon and two hydrogens heavier again than bufotenine, because a methoxy group (-OCH3) replaces bufotenine's hydroxyl (-OH). 5-MeO-DMT therefore does not share DMT's formula and does not share bufotenine's formula either; it is a chemical homologue, a close synthetic relative built by substituting a larger group onto the same tryptamine core, but it is not an isomer of either named entry under the plain chemical meaning of that word, because none of the three compounds (DMT, bufotenine, 5-MeO-DMT) has the same atom count as either of the other two. On that reasoning, the isomer clause's own wording does not extend to 5-MeO-DMT, and it is absent from Table II-A by both name and chemical-isomer extension. This reading is as printed 25 January 2017, read on 7 October 2026; no later amending law has been found (see the search recorded below).
